Qualcomm revealed the Snapdragon S7 Pro Gen 1 and Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 CPUs for smartphones and laptops on Tuesday at the company's annual Snapdragon Summit, along with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Snapdragon X Elite chips. The new Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 series is the company's successor to the S5 Gen 2 CPUs. The Pro model includes Bluetooth 5.4 and micro-power Wi-Fi connection for much greater range on forthcoming wireless earbuds. It can also broadcast 192kHz lossless audio and spatial audio.
The new Snapdragon S7 Pro Gen 1 audio processor supports micro-power Wi-Fi and will be available in the coming months on truly wireless stereo (TWS) headsets, wireless earbuds, and linked speakers. Aside with Bluetooth 5.4 compatibility, wireless headphones with micro-power Wi-Fi connectivity and Qualcomm's XPAN technology are said to expand range from a few meters to "across the home, building, or campus."
In addition to the enhanced range of the Snapdragon S7 Pro Gen 1, the more expensive variant enables multi-channel lossless audio streaming and multi-channel spatial audio. Both processors enable Qualcomm's hearing loss correction technology as well as personal sound amplification features.
According to Qualcomm, the new processors offer a six-fold increase in computational power, while AI capabilities have enhanced by "almost 100 times" thanks to the new Micro NPU AI engine. The chip can also switch between ANC settings based on machine learning and the wearer's surroundings. The processors of the S7 Gen 1 series also enable the company's fourth-generation active noise cancellation (ANC) technology.
The new Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 and Snapdragon S7 Pro Gen 1 have not been announced by Qualcomm, however goods equipped with these are expected to be introduced in the coming months. The business claims that when combined with the newest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC or the new Snapdragon X Elite laptop chipset, the new wireless audio chips would unleash new sound experiences, implying that some functionality may be hardware-limited.
