SFS, a mobile component maker interested in spending Rs. 250 crore, has requested 30 acres of land in Belagavi from the state government. M B Patil, Minister for Large and Medium Industries, said in a statement that SFS representatives led by the company's CFO Faras Shaw met with him on Wednesday to share views on the planned project.
The minister welcomed the suggestion and stated that the decision will be made after analysing it, according to the release.
"SFS has already established and is operating an aerospace components unit in Belagavi." The business, which also manufactures mobile components for customers like Apple, is interested in establishing a plant in Belagavi. According to the announcement, "this is expected to generate 500 direct jobs for technologists over the next three years."
Meanwhile, a number of global technology companies are shifting production to India. According to a recent Bloomberg story, Alphabet's Google is looking for suppliers in India to produce its Pixel smartphones, following Apple's lead in diversifying beyond China.
The Gujarat government has struck an agreement with Micron, a US-based computer storage chip producer, to establish a $2.75 billion (approximately Rs. 22,560 crore) semiconductor manufacturing and testing facility in Sanand, Ahmedabad. According to Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, it would be India's first semiconductor production plant, and the first chips will be created within 18 months.
Similarly, Vedanta's unproven display company plans to establish a $4 billion (about Rs. 32,811 crore) liquid crystal display panel manufacture factory in western India. The plant is estimated to generate up to 3,500 direct employment.
