Qualcomm unveiled its next flagship mobile platform, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, at the Snapdragon Summit on Tuesday. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC's successor offers a slew of new features and claims to be the first mobile platform focused on generative AI. The AI engine of the SoC enables multi-modal generative AI models, such as popular large language models (LLMs). The Qualcomm Hexagon NPU claims to be 98 percent quicker and 40 percent more efficient. It also offers 240 frames per second gameplay on compatible monitors, as well as global lighting with ray tracing. Qualcomm claims that the Adreno GPU in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC is 25% quicker and more efficient. The 5G-ready processor supports Wi-Fi 7 and dual Bluetooth.

Qualcomm expects major Android handsets powered by its newest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC to be launched in the coming weeks. Global OEMs and smartphone brands such as ASUS, Honor, iQOO, MEIZU, NIO, Nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, realme, Redmi, RedMagic, Sony, Vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE will use the chip in flagship products.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC has the Qualcomm AI engine, which boasts a 98 percent quicker and 40 percent more efficient hexagon process. The device has generative AI capabilities, offering the quickest stable diffusion for picture production in the world. The Qualcomm Kryo CPU delivers up to 3.3 GHz at 30 percent quicker and 20 percent more efficient rates thanks to 4nm processing technology. The CPU has five Performance cores with clock speeds of up to 3.2 GHz and two Efficiency cores with clock speeds of up to 2.3 GHz.
In addition, the processor offers high-end gaming performance, including hardware-accelerated ray tracing and global lighting. On compatible TVs, the processor offers 240 frames per second gameplay, with the Qualcomm Adreno GPU claiming to be 25% quicker and more efficient.
The new processor also promises a slew of new AI-powered camera functions. The chip includes Arcsoft's Video Object Eraser, which eliminates undesirable items and persons from videos. It also has additional zoom capabilities, thanks to a 200-megapixel image sensor tuned for Snapdragon, which enables multiple video capture, object tracking, and 2X and 4X magnification. It supports Dolby HDR and has Photo Expansion, which uses AI to fill out photographs.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has the same Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 System as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, including Wi-Fi 7 802.11be, 802.11ax, 802.11ac, 802.11a/b/g/n, and Bluetooth 5.4 compatibility. The Snapdragon X75 5G Modem-RF System is present in the newest processor. According to the company, the mobile platform has the world's first 5G modem with an embedded AI tensor hardware accelerator.
The chip also supports Bluetooth 24-bit 96 kHz lossless audio, USB Version 3.1 Gen 2, USB Type-C, and UFS 4.0 storage.
