Qualcomm unveiled a slew of new goods and services on Tuesday, including its flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, at the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii. In addition, the business announced a new cross-platform technology that enables the seamless integration of numerous devices inside a single ecosystem. Snapdragon Seamless, according to the manufacturer, allows Android, Windows, and Snapdragon devices running other operating systems to discover and exchange peripherals and data.
While Microsoft Windows provides a Phone Link capability, Android smartphones and PCs lag far behind the seamless cross-platforming linking of an iPhone and a Mac. Apple has created a healthy ecosystem amongst its devices over the years, so connecting two or more Apple products and accessing its services across devices is effortless. Qualcomm's Snapdragon Seamless aims to provide a comparable degree of connection across Snapdragon-powered mobile devices and Windows PCs.
According to Qualcomm's news statement, enabled devices would be able to quickly identify one other and function as a single integrated system using the technology. According to the firm, gadgets from multiple manufacturers frequently do not communicate well with one another, decreasing customer choice and generating lock-in when consumers feel trapped with one manufacturer so their devices can operate together. "With Snapdragon Seamless, device manufacturers and OS partners can enhance and extend their multi-device experiences for consumers," according to the press announcement.
Snapdragon Seamless allows mouse and keyboards to function seamlessly between PCs, phones, and tablets. Users will also be able to drag and drop files and active windows between devices. It may also enable earphones to automatically switch based on the importance of the audio source.
Qualcomm stated that it is cooperating with Microsoft, Android, Xiaomi, ASUS, Honor, Lenovo, and OPPO, among others, to deliver multi-device cross-platform experiences powered by Snapdragon Seamless. The service will be available on global device platforms later this year, but no exact date was given.
Qualcomm Seamless is included into Qualcomm's mobile platforms, including the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3; its newest PC platform, Snapdragon X Elite; and its wearable and hearable platforms. In the future, the cross-platform technology will be expanded to XR, Auto, and IoT platforms.
The business introduced its next flagship mobile platform, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, at the Snapdragon Summit, delivering a slew of new generative AI technologies and 240 fps gaming compatibility. Qualcomm also unveiled its new Snapdragon X Elite PC platform, boasting 50 percent "faster peak multi-threaded performance" when compared to Apple Silicon M2, and up to double the CPU performance when compared to Intel Core i7-13800H.
