As part of the newest operating system upgrade, Microsoft has included support for Copilot, the company's new AI-powered assistant. Aside from including a chatbot into Windows 11, Microsoft is also improving the MS Paint software with layer support and graphics production, and the built-in Snipping Tool for snapshots with AI-based functions like text extraction and redaction. When transferring to a new Windows 11 PC, Windows Backup will allow you to migrate data between PCs.
Microsoft announced the improvements coming to Windows 11 in a blog post on Tuesday, revealing that the Copilot functionality is finally making its way to the platform. Copilot will bring the company's redesigned Bing Chat to Windows 11, enabling users to do things like take a screenshot, toggle Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and other system features, and generate a summary of a site page.
Copilot will also employ generative AI replies to respond to your requests using text and images. After upgrading to the current version of Windows with Copilot, you may access the feature by pressing the Windows key and C or by clicking on the Copilot icon on the Windows 11 taskbar.
Microsoft is also revamping the MS Paint program with some of the most significant updates in over four decades. MS Paint now supports several layers, exactly like Adobe Photoshop. According to the firm, you will also be able to effortlessly remove the backdrop from any image using the built-in image editing tool.
Meanwhile, a new Paint Cocreator preview will be available to Windows Insider testers in the next weeks, with capability for providing a text prompt to create unique pictures, according to Microsoft's blog post. According to the blog post, "50 credits are available for the initial use of Paint Cocreator." "One credit is applied per use," implying that the feature will not be free to use when it is released.
Microsoft's built-in screenshot and markup tool for Windows 11 is also gaining new AI-powered features. After installing the most recent Windows 11 update, you'll be able to use the Snipping Tool to access two new features: text recognition and redaction. While the former detects text using optical character recognition (OCR), the latter allows you to black out any text from a snapshot, such as an email address or phone number.
Finally, Microsoft is improving the Windows 11 File Explorer with a new home screen that includes larger thumbnails for favorite or recently used files and documents. You will also be able to read RAR and 7-zip files natively, eliminating the requirement for third-party file compression software.
You may enable the option labeled Get the latest updates as soon as they're available by opening the Windows 11 settings app and navigating to Windows Update. You'll then have to wait for the update to reach your laptop or desktop computer.
