Apple's Magic Keyboard Redesign Will Make the New iPad Pro More Like a Laptop: Mark Gurman

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple has been working on redesigning its iPad Pro accessories, including the Magic Keyboard. Meanwhile, the Cupertino-based tech behemoth is slated to debut two new iPad Pro models in 2024 with the yet-to-be-released M3 CPU and OLED panels. Previously, the business was said to be working on an improved variant of its Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro attachment. The iPad Pro is anticipated to receive its first substantial hardware upgrade in six years.

Mark Gurman mentioned in his September 3 Power On email that Apple is working on a new Magic Keyboard that will launch next year alongside the company's new iPad Pro devices. The next keyboard attachment will supposedly have a bigger trackpad to make it more Mac-like, but Gurman emphasized that the redesign will be even more comprehensive. To match modern Mac computers, the top casing, or the region around the keyboard itself, will be aluminum for the first time on a Magic Keyboard for iPad.

According to Gurman, the weight savings from switching to aluminum will be negligible. If Apple chooses to use more expensive materials, the price of the item may rise. Currently, the Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro 11-inch costs Rs. 29,999, while the Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro 12.9-inch costs Rs. 33,900.

The revised Magic Keyboard for iPad will be released alongside the 2024 iPad Pro, which is believed to include 11-inch and 13-inch OLED screens and might be introduced in the second part of the year, according to Gurman. According to Gurman's estimate from last week, Apple is likely to release upgraded iPad Air or iPad mini devices before releasing the next iPad Pro model.

Future iPad Pro versions, internally coded J717, J718, J720, and J721, are expected to be powered by a claimed 3nm M3 chipset, which might give higher performance and efficiency than the 4nm M2 SoCs featured in the company's current-generation MacBook, iPad, and Mac models.
