Apple Vision Pro, the iPhone maker's first wearable spatial computer, is set to arrive on sale in early 2024, but a cheaper version that was said to be in the works may have been scrapped. According to TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, shipments of the Cupertino firm's initial mixed reality headset would fall short of market expectations in the first year, and the business may not issue a replacement device for several years.

Kuo argues in a new Medium post, given the maximum manufacturing capability of several component suppliers, that while the market expects Apple to ship 1 million devices in the first year, the firm would ship "at most 400,000-600,000 units." This is consistent with a previous analysis that predicted comparable wearable device production predictions.

According to Kuo, the corporation may have cancelled the rumored low-cost version of the Apple Vision Pro headset, which was expected to launch a year after the initial model's release. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said in June that the replacement to the Apple Vision Pro was already under development and that a lower-cost variant will be available by the end of 2025.

According to the researcher, the rumored Apple Vision Pro 2 would not appear until the first half of 2027. This means that, aside from the Vision Pro, Apple is unlikely to offer newer spatial computers, either at a lower or higher price range, in the next years.

According to a July source, the Cupertino corporation was obliged to make significant changes to its manufacturing predictions for the Apple Vision Pro. At the time, Luxshare, Apple's contract manufacturer in China, was working on producing "fewer than 400,000 units" of the first-generation Apple Vision Pro in the first year.

Apple revealed earlier this year at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) event that its first spatial computer will be available in early 2024. Zeiss has since published specifics about the prescription optical inserts for the headset. Apple also provided visionOS developer tools, which will let app developers to create apps for the device before its arrival next year.
