The iPhone 15 Pro and last year's iPhone 14 Pro have been pitted against one other in a new drop test designed to determine the durability of Apple's premium handsets. According to the drop test video posted by YouTuber Sam Kohl, the iPhone 14 Pro was able to endure the drop test better than the current iPhone 15 Pro. The current iPhone's black glass cracked at the sixth drop, but the iPhone 14 Pro remained nearly pristine until the final drop. The rounded titanium edges of this year's iPhone 15 Pro replace the stainless steel edges of its predecessor. Continue reading to find out how the iPhone 15 Pro and its predecessor fared in drop testing.
Sam Kohl of AppleTrack has posted a 13-minute YouTube video that covers drop testing in numerous rounds to systematically assess how well the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro withstand crashes from various heights. Initially, the YouTuber hurled two phones from waist height, and they survived with only minor scratches. The iPhone 15 Pro developed cracks in the back panel after the fifth drop, while the rear camera panel began to display dents and scratches after the sixth. Even after the sixth dive, the iPhone 14 Pro escaped unscathed.
The video shows that the newest device's rounded titanium edges cannot withstand fracturing. The back and edge of the iPhone 15 are considered more vulnerable to damage than those of the iPhone 14 Pro. It might be because the iPhone 14 Pro has a stainless steel frame, but the new gadget has a titanium coating.
Drops caused varying degrees of damage to the iPhone 15 Pro's rear panel and corners. In reality, the bottom display malfunctioned and became inoperable on the 13th drop from a height of around 15 feet. The iPhone 14 Pro fared well when dropped from this height onto a concrete surface, with no noticeable breaks in the screen or back glass.
The whole back camera module of the Phone 15 Pro broke and disconnected from the device's body in the 14th drop at the end of the drop test. The iPhone 14 Pro, on the other hand, remained functioning despite having entirely broken at the front and rear. Even after several drops, the camera on the iPhone 14 Pro continued to function normally, with just minor fractures on the camera island, and the display responded properly to touch inputs. According to the YouTuber, the iPhone 14 Pro fared far better than the iPhone 15 Pro.
A drop test, on the other hand, cannot determine whether or not an item is durable. The iPhone 15 Pro is presently available in India and 40 other countries across the world. As the new gadget becomes more widely available in the following days, customers will be able to determine if the titanium structure is a superior option.
In India, the iPhone 15 Pro begins at Rs. 1,39,900 for the base 128GB storage capacity. It is now available in India through Apple's online store, Apple BKC, Saket, e-commerce websites, and authorised retail shops.
