Apple's MacBook Air 15 with a starting price of Rs. 1,34,900 was unveiled in June this year at the company's WWDC 2023 event. As the rivalry in the low-cost PC market heats up with Google's Chromebooks and a slew of entry-level Windows laptops, Apple is thought to be preparing to compete in this space. According to a recent rumor, the Cupertino company is working on low-cost MacBook models to compete with Chromebook models in the education sector. The rumored MacBook series is likely to become official in the second part of next year.

According to DigiTimes, which cites industry insiders, Apple is working on a low-cost MacBook series to compete with Chromebook models in the education sector, which might be delivered as early as the second half of 2024. The rumored MacBook series will have the standard metal shell. However, the forthcoming models may differ from the current MacBook Air and MacBook Pro by using less costly materials and components to save costs.

Windows laptops and Chromebooks are currently quite popular among students and in the educational sector. According to the estimate, over 13.9 million Chromebooks were supplied in 2019, with over 30.4 million devices shipped in 2020. More than 33.5 million Chromebooks will be sold by 2021. Apple may be eyeing the Chromebook market, with forthcoming MacBook notebooks estimated to cost less than $1,000 (approximately Rs. 80,000).

Apple, on the other hand, has yet to divulge plans for low-cost MacBook variants. As a result, take this information with a grain of salt.

The M1-powered MacBook Air 13-inch is now Apple's most affordable laptop. It is now available in India for a starting price of Rs. 99,900.

The MacBook Air M1 sports a 13.3-inch IPS Retina display with a resolution of 1,600x2,560 pixels. The Apple M1 CPU powers the laptop, which has up to 16GB of RAM and up to 2TB of inbuilt storage. It has an HD FaceTime camera as well as a Touch ID sensor. It also contains Dolby Atmos-enhanced stereo speakers.
