Alphabet's Google is expected to employ a manufacturing and policy veteran as its senior government affairs executive in India to deal with legal issues and grow hardware assembly in the country.
Sreenivasa Reddy, a senior engineering executive at Microsoft, is expected to join Google before the end of the year, according to sources familiar with the subject who asked not to be identified because the topic is private. He previously served in key positions at Apple's India regulatory team and as the head of government relations at Ericsson AB's local subsidiary, both of which helped to develop domestic manufacturing.
Reddy's skills will be useful at Google, which is looking for partners in India to construct its Pixel smartphone line as it expands outside China. The production of Pixel in India might pave the way for the fabrication of future Google hardware goods, such as speakers.
The executive will also assist Google in navigating regulatory issues. In India, the Mountain View, California-based corporation is facing antitrust accusations for allegedly exploiting its dominant position in mobile operating systems.
Reddy and Google staff in India did not reply to calls for comment. Archana Gulati, Google's previous India policy chief, left the business last year.
Google is one of the major technology companies that sees India as a crucial growth opportunity. In order to get more consumers in the world's most populous country, the business is adding additional local languages to its services and looking for methods to make its Android handsets more affordable.
