One97 Communications, which owns the Paytm brand, unveiled Card Soundbox on Monday, which enables retailers to take both mobile and card payments across the Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and RuPay networks.

In India, the UPI payment system has proven extremely popular for retail digital payments, and its use is rapidly expanding.

These 'tap and pay' card-based payments will let retailers grow their operations. Paytm Card Soundbox solves two challenges for merchants: taking card payments and providing quick audio warnings for all payments.

Paytm was the first company to introduce audio-based confirmations with Paytm Soundbox in 2019.

"The introduction of Paytm's one-of-a-kind device will transform in-store payments by expanding merchant payment acceptance by combining Soundbox with NFC or contactless debit and credit card payments with mobile payments." "An industry-first solution, the new Soundbox provides both audio and visual payment confirmation to the merchant and the customer via an LCD display," Paytm said in a statement.

Paytm Card Soundbox has a 'tap and pay' feature that allows retailers to take card payments up to Rs 5,000.

The Made in India gadget boasts 4G network access, a 4W speaker, and a five-day battery life.

The gadget was designed with a varied merchant base in mind, and it gives warnings in 11 languages that may be adjusted by the merchant using the 'Paytm for Business' app.

Furthermore, Paytm Card Soundbox allows customers with NFC-enabled smartphones to pay via the tap function.

"Paytm has always been at the forefront of innovating for India's small businesses, helping them with payments and financial services." Today, we take it to the next level with Paytm Card Soundbox. "We discovered that merchants and consumers require card acceptance as easily as mobile payments with the Paytm QR Code," stated Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Founder and CEO of Paytm.

"The launch of Card Soundbox will go a long way toward merging merchants' two requirements - mobile payments and card payments," Sharma remarked.
