The Apple Watch Series 9 and the second-generation Apple Watch Ultra are scheduled to be unveiled during the 'Wonderlust' event on September 12. The upcoming Apple Watch Series 9 is expected to improve on the Apple Watch Series 8. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the future smartwatches will employ an updated version of Apple's optical heart rate sensor. The Apple Watch Series 9 is expected to be available in 42mm and 45mm sizes, with the Apple Watch Ultra possibly available in a 49mm size.

Mark Gurman reports in his latest weekly Power On email that Apple's Watch Series 9 and the second-generation Apple Watch Ultra will include a new optical heart rate sensor. This would be a major improvement over the Watch Series 8's and Watch Ultra's third-generation heart rate sensors. Furthermore, the smartwatches will purportedly receive sensor and other internal component updates.

According to Gurman, the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra will appear identical to their predecessors. According to reports, the former will be available in 42mm and 45mm sizes. The Apple Watch Ultra, on the other hand, is believed to be 49mm in size, manufactured with more recyclable materials, and available in black.

The new wearables, like the iPhone 15 series, will allegedly use the U2 ultrawide-band processor for better Find My features. Furthermore, Gurman claims that the new models will receive their first new processor since the Series 6 in 2020.

Materials for the stainless steel variants of the Apple Watch Series 9 will allegedly be created using a new manufacturing technique based on 3D printing as part of an environmental drive. The second-generation Ultra might use this method starting next year. Furthermore, the Cupertino-based corporation is apparently abandoning some of its leather watch bands and may update or remove its stainless steel link bracelets from the 2015 watch.

On Tuesday, September 12, Apple will hold its 'Wonderlust' launch event. The event, which will take place at Apple Park in California, will begin at 10:30 p.m. IST and will be livestreamed on the company's YouTube channel and the Apple.com website. Along with the new Apple Watch Ultra (2nd Gen) and Apple Watch Series 9 models, the iPhone 15 series and second-generation AirPods Pro model are likely to be presented.
