Google plans to release the stable version of Android 14 next month, along with the Pixel 8 series devices. While we wait for the Pixel hardware announcement on October 4, Google has released the first Quarterly Platform Release beta (QPR1) of Android 14 to Pixel phones. If Google's previous releases are any indication, the Android 14 QPR1 Beta 1 will be stable three months after its initial release. The most recent update apparently increases the battery charge cycle count for Pixel devices.

The Android 14 QPR1 beta is now out, and it provides a sneak peek at what's in store for the upcoming Pixel Feature Drop upgrade. The build has the version number U1B1.230908.003 and includes the security patch for September 2023. Users who have joined in the Android Beta Program will receive this update. The release notes indicate various bug fixes as well as improvements to stability and efficiency.

Google Pixel 5a, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, and Pixel Tablet beta participants are eligible for the current update. To acquire the new software, users may manually check for updates by going to Settings > System > Software update. This update does not appear to be coming to the Pixel 4a 5G or Pixel 5.

Because this is an early beta version, Google warns that transferring SIM cards may result in a loss of cellular connection and the battery level briefly displaying 0% in the status bar.

According to 9to5Google, the Android 14 QPR1 beta adds the opportunity to check more battery metrics in Settings, in addition to the standard charge level and use information. A new "Battery Information" feature will purportedly emerge on Google Pixel smartphones, including statistics such as the battery's production date and the number of charge cycles. Users may view this information by going to Settings > About Phone > "Battery Information."

Google releases a major OS upgrade once a year, followed by QPR1, QPR2, and QPR3 updates. If the business follows this trend, Android 14's first Quarterly Platform Release will be available in the next three months as the December 2023 Pixel Feature Drop.
