On Wednesday, Meta unveiled a slew of new goods and services, including the Meta Quest 3 mixed reality headset and a pair of smart spectacles developed in conjunction with Ray-Ban. Along with the hardware, the business revealed Meta AI, its own AI assistant, and a number of AI experiences across Meta's suite of applications and devices, such as AI stickers in Meta apps and AI editing capabilities for Instagram. Meta AI will be available on WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram, and will be a conversational generative AI assistant similar to OpenAI's ChatGPT or Microsoft's Bing.
Llama 2, Meta's huge language model, will fuel Meta AI. According to Meta, the AI assistant will deliver real-time information in answer to text-based questions by combing the internet using Bing search. Meta AI will also create visuals in response to text requests. In a group conversation, the AI assistant may help you arrange hiking excursions with your pals, create recipes, and manage your shopping list. Inside their chat box, users may enter "@MetaAI /imagine" and then follow it up with specific text suggestions for what they want the AI helper to accomplish. Meta AI will also be available on the company's most recent gadgets, the Meta Quest 3 and Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.
Aside from its basic AI helper, the business displayed AI avatars with unique personalities. Meta is delivering 28 AI characters, each with their own narrative and personality. These AI avatars will be able to chat with users on WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger, and will also feature prominent celebrities and influencers with whom Meta has collaborated for likenesses. Dwayne Wade, Kendall Jenner, Mr. Beast, Snoop Dogg, and more will appear as AI characters.
Meta refers to its picture production tool as the 'expressive media universe,' or Emu. The program may also instantly produce AI stickers for sharing with pals based on a user's text prompts inside apps like WhatsApp or Instagram. "It's high-quality, photorealistic," explained Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg during the presentation. "However, one of the coolest things about the Emu is how quickly it generates." It's not even a minute. "It takes about five seconds to make one of these," he remarked. This unique sticker generating capability will be available to select English-language users across WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram, and Facebook Stories over the next month.
The Facebook parent company is also introducing new AI-powered image editing tools, notably two new services — Restyle and Backdrop — that use Emu tool technology. Restyle functions as a custom filter that responds to user input. Restyle will modify your photographs to reflect a specific mood based on a single descriptor or a more detailed suggestion. Backdrop, as the name implies, will allow users to modify the backdrop of their photographs depending on personalized prompts. Images made using both tools will have AI-generated markings. Meta stated that Restyle and Backdrop will be available on Instagram shortly but did not specify a specific date.
