Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino defended the temporary restriction on the amount of tweets users may see in a day established on July 1, and the firm said advertising has remained constant in the days after the move, which received harsh criticism from users and marketing professionals.
In her tweet, Yaccarino stated that "when you have a mission like Twitter — you need to make big moves to keep strengthening the platform." It was her first public reaction on the constraints revealed by owner Elon Musk on Saturday, who stated that the move was intended to deter "extreme levels" of data harvesting and system manipulation.
In the days after Musk's revelation, Twitter users provided screenshots demonstrating that they were unable to view any messages, even those from corporate advertisers, after reaching the limit. Marketing experts believe it might jeopardise Yaccarino's efforts to recruit advertising.
According to Twitter, the constraints have only affected a small fraction of users.
"To ensure the authenticity of our user base, we must take extreme measures to remove spam and bots from our platform," the business wrote on Tuesday in a blog post.
The limit went into effect shortly after Twitter began forcing users to connect into their accounts in order to access tweets.
Facebook parent Meta Platforms announced plans to build Threads, a microblogging service that would directly compete with Twitter, which has been fiercely criticised since Musk purchased the firm for $44 billion (approximately Rs. 3,37,465 crore) in 2022.
When asked in an email why the CEO did not comment on the change until three days after it was disclosed, Twitter did not respond, instead sending Reuters a poop emoji, which is the company's typical response to media inquiries.
